Yin and Yang Cookies
A Easy stand out cookie recipe which involves little prep and work.
Supplies
200 g Butter, softened
200 g Caster sugar
20 g Coco Powder
1 Medium egg (Lightly Beaten)
400 g Plain flour (Plus extra for dusting)
Round cookie cutter (I used a 88mm one but bigger or smaller is fine)
Something small and round (I use a old pen lid)
In a mixing bowl, use an electric or hand whisk to cream together the butter with the sugar until well mixed and it is creamy in texture.
Add in the egg to the mixture and mix until well combined, once combined half the mixture and put one half into another bowl.
To one bowl add 200g of flour and mix until a dough forms. In the another add 180g of flour and 20 grams of coco powder and again mix into a dough.
Gather each dough into a ball, wrap in cling film and chill for at least 1 hour.
To make a Yin and Yang template, i simple draw the shape out onto a piece of paper and cut it out, you can free hand the deign if you wish when cutting the cookies.
Preheat your oven to 190°C.
Put one of the dough's on a lightly floured surface and knead briefly, then roll out to 1cm thick.Using your round cookie cutter cut out all of the one dough and then repeat with the remaining dough ball.
Once you have cut out all the dough circles you will need to now make the Yin and Yang part.
Get your template and place onto one side of the circle and cut around it, do this to each cookie until you have two half's of each coco and plain.
Now to remove and add the "dots" get your pen lid or chosen tool and simply punch out a hole in both sides of the Yin and Yang and place the opposite colour piece into the other hole. Take both plain and coco parts and carefully mound them together to form the Yin and Yang symbol, don't worry to much as they will join together more once cooked.
Place your cookies onto a baking tray and place into the oven for around 10-12 minutes until the plain side looks golden brown.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool.
Now to put your feet up and enjoy your cookies with a coffee or cuppa tea.
