Yaksha Mask (Xiao's Mask) From Genshin Impact
This is how I made Xiao's Mask from Genshin impact. I chose to make this mask because I love Genshin Impact, and Xiao is one of my favorite chracters.
Supplies
In this project, I used:
- A Plastic Halloween Mask (extra points for accuracy if a devil or witch mask is used)
- Acryllic Paint (Colours used are: Black, White, Spun Gold, Peacock Blue, African Violet, Hunter Green)
- Paint Brush set (just a dollar store one)
- Hot Glue & Hot Glue Gun
- Egg crate foam
- Craft Foam
- Foam Floor Mat (Just one)
- Black Mesh Fabric
- Finger Lights
- Elastic Strap with Velcro
- Rotary Multi-tool (Dremel tool)
- Craft knife
I also used This mask reference found on reddit.
"Disassemble" the Mask
Take your halloween mask and draw lines to seperate the lower jaw of the mask, as well as some of the upper portion of the mask (as shown in the photos). Use you rotary tool's cutting wheel to cut along these lines.
Reforming the Mask
Glue the lower jaw to the upper part of the mask in a way that makes the chin protrude slightly. In doing this, the mouth should also close a little bit, almost loking like a wide grin.
Making Horns
Take your Foam floor mat and draw 6 identical horn like shapes into it. Cut these shapes out, stack them in groups of 3, and glue these stacks together. After this, you'll want to use your scissors to cut the stacks into a more conical shape before smoothening it out with your rotary tool's drum sander. You can repeat this step for the two smaller horns underneath the big ones.
Smaller Details
Use a craft knife to cut smaller details (such as the gold accents on his mask or the teeth on the mask) out of your craft foam.
Painting
Paint the parts of the mask according to the labels in the picture (Note: if it wasn't obvious, paint the parts circled in green green).
Decorating the Mask
Glue all of the painted parts onto the mask (The gold accents and the green eybrows). Any details that were not cut out of craft foam and painted in the previous step can be painted directly onto the mask.
Glowing Eyes (Optional)
Make some small clumps of hot glue on a nonstick surface. Glue your one of your green finger lights onto each of these clumps. Once you have done this, glue the clumps into the eyes of your mask before covering them with mesh. Now turning on the lights makes it look like the eyes are glowing.
Straps(Also Optional)
Take your elastic strap and cut it in half with your scissors. Next, glue the end of each strap with no velcro into the mask. This way, you can strap the mask onto your head with the velcro. Don't forget to put a small square of egg crate foam onto the forehead of your mask to make it more comfortable to wear.
You Did It!
Great job! you did it! Now you have a neat looking mask that you can use on your next cosplay or hang up on the wall. Just please, don't try conquering demons with it. It will not work.
