Worlds Tiniest Dice Tower
Greetings Adventurers of the Forgotten Realms, could I interest you in a quest for a tiny relic? I assure you the item in question is the tiniest of its type in all the lands or at least the smallest these eyes have seen. though the size may be small buy the power can be just as remarkable as one 10x its size and just as unforgiving. So if you dare join me in this quest for what is promised as The Worlds Tiniest Dice Tower!!!!!!
Supplies
For this quest this is the gear I would recommend (though substitutions could be made if desired)
1/4 in ply wood
wood glue
miter box
hand saw
sandpaper
scissors
felt
stain
super glue
clear plastic (like the kind you get from those packages that are a pain to open)
also the worlds tiniest dice
+1 Wood Cutting
Starting with your 1/4 in piece of ply wood mine was about 6in x 12in of that i only used about 4 inches of that I lined my dice up on the saw leaving a little wiggle room so the dice could roll freely (in the picture i realize this is much larger as this cut was for the back as well as the bottom of the tower but the same method is done for the walls as well as the rolling slides)
when i cut my bottom and back there were several cuts that were less than desirable luckily sandpaper make quick work of that just be careful to not sand too much as this is a tiny item and depending on your technique the results could be more than you bargained for
in the end I cut 3 pieces 1 that would be the bottom and back of the tower and 2 that would make up the sides and the rolling slides
after i sized the bottom and back pieces i took my other pieces and cut out a little frame for the bottom and then used the bottom to let me size the sides of the tower
Grapple Check With Wood Glue and Slides
each piece i glued together using a small amount of wood glue holding each piece in place for a moment for the wood glue to set a little. before i got to cutting the slides i took a small piece and sanded one side to a 45 degree angle and cut it off just at the angle this piece will go at the bottom, of the tower it allows the dice to be kicked to the rolling surface and not just stay in the back corner
using left overs of the walls and sides I cut out 2 slides each at a 22 degree angle (pre determined angle on my miter box 45 was lust too much for such a small area
when gluing the slides on make sure the dice will fit completely through the slide motion or they could get stuck
this was a good time to test it just to make sure the rolling worked for it as you can see i rolled a 7 which i felt was a success
Disguise Self
since this wasnt my first dice tower i have made i realized just because its tiny doesnt mean i want to put fourth a tiny amount of effort i was going to give it all the detail i would had it been a large dice tower
that being said i pulled out my sandpaper on a stick and went and sanded a nice rounded edge on all the corners just to give it a nice finished look
after making sure all the sawdust was thoroughly removed i got out my stain and used a cloth to wipe on the stain (after doing this i realize for the rolling slides a small brush would have helped tremendously at getting in tight corners but i feel i got everything pretty good)
Final Blow
after given time to dry (you could also put some poly on at this point if you wanted to) its time for felt i decided to go with some classic green using scissors i cut to fit a small piece of felt and using tacky glue glued it to the bottom
next i had a sheet of plastic from some playing cards my son got cutting a square out i CAREFULLY super glued it to the front to make sure the dice stay on track also making sure there is enough clearance for the dice to get out
