Wooden VFD Eye Token- Series of Unfortunate Events

How to make an old-antique-looking wooden VFD eye token from A Series of Unfortunate Events.

3-inch round wooden circle

Belt sander

Rotary tool

Flat black acrylic or spray paint

Metallic gold acrylic paint

Using a belt sander, sand the wood into a token shape, however big and thick you want it. I made this one about 2 inches across and about a quarter inch thick. Smooth the edges with the sander until it looks similar to the pictures above.

Using a pencil or pen, draw the eye symbol as shown above. You can use a reference photo or just free-hand it.

Using a rotary tool, follow the design, carving out the image. Use multiple different bits to get a smooth but not perfect-looking carving. Do this to give it even more of an older, worn look.

Using black spray paint (or regular acrylic paint), cover the whole token in black, leaving no unpainted spaces. Then, using the dry-brush technique, lightly brush metallic gold paint over the top. The dry-brush technique is done by using a completely dry brush, and getting a little paint on the brush. Then wipe most of the paint off on a paper or your palette, and gently brush the gold over the top, back, and sides. When doing the top, be careful not to get a lot of gold into the carved parts, but on the raised potions.
