Wooden FootBridge for the "make It Bridge Challenge".
Hello! I am in the 8th grade, and this is my entry for the "make it bridge" challenge throughout the steps below I will prove that my project Strengthens civic life and social infrastructure, brings people together across lines of difference, promotes a deeper relationship between humans and nature, and Increases accessibility and a sense of belonging for a user group. it will also hopefully inspire you to take an idea from your mind and turn it into a physical object.
Supplies
you will need:
1: 3D CAD. software: such as tinker CAD which is a basic but powerful entry level 3D design software. Or fusion 360 a more powerful but more difficult to learn software.
2: inspiration: (type of bridge, location, material, style.)
3: time: one to two weeks
4: A way to bring your design into the real world: This could be a 3D printer, CNCed parts assembled into your model, or any other way you can think of to bring your design to life.
5: you will also need the appropriate construction supplies to build the bridge. I am not listing those here because this contest is for a concept for a bridge not a physical bridge so listing said supplies would not be relevant to the contest.
Brainstorming
in the contest rules it was stated that I had to choose a local site for my bridge, so I chose a nearby botanical garden as the site for my footbridge on account of the many places that you can't cross the large stream that you can see on the map above. now that I had a site, I had to figure out how to make my bridge fit into the botanical garden's theme of nature while also keeping the design general enough to fit into other communities so it could better benefit more people.
Shape and Design
I wanted a footbridge design that looked good but could also be easily scaled to fit different applications in other communities. I took inspiration from the pictures of bridges above and incorporated various different aspects from them into my design. I picked those bridges because of their overall theme of nature.
Detail
in my bridge design I tried to incorporate as much detail as possible everything from screws/bolts where they would be in a physical bridge to the main supporting pillars with their interwoven structure. I have stated previously that I wanted a strong yet beautiful footbridge design, and this required some sacrifices in how easily the bridge could be made because of the previously stated intricacy of the design.
Conclusion/finished Product
