Wooden Fairy House
Making fairy houses is a fun way to be creative with timber, and collecting materials is a great reason to go out for a walk and say "Hi" and "Thank you" to the trees around you.
Supplies
Lots of assorted dry sticks, Wood glue, String, Hand saw, Pincers, Scissors
Wall Panels
- Cut 6 thicker sticks to approx 150mm or half a foot, these will be wall supports
- Split them lengthways
- Cut lots of sticks to approx 200mm or 8 inches
- Glue these to the wall supports
Assemble Walls
- Glue and tie the three wall panels together
- There will need to be a stick across the front to create the 4th wall and to tie the house together.
I like to play around with the natural shapes of the sticks and create door openings on the 4th wall.
For this house, I have been inspired by a forked stick, so I'm going to make a door to fit it.
Make the Roof
- Find two sticks that fork out, this will be the end for the frame of your roof
- Glue and tie one on each end of a stick the same length as the walls or longer
- When they dry, glue and tie the roof frame to your house
- Glue some leaves along some sticks to make roof covers
Door Ideas
This door has been fun and you can do similar or totally different, I would love to see what you create in the comments!
There is no right or wrong, there is just "do you like it or not?", enjoy the process.
