Wire Fishing Hook

In this instructable I’ll show you how to make a wire fishing hook. This is good for ponds that don’t allow hooks with barbs (stupid I know).

Gather Supplies

For this project you will need wire cutters, 18 gauge steel wire (I used stainless), and needle nose pliers

Cut the Wire

Cut a 2 inch length of wire

Make a Loop

Use your needle nose pliers to make a small loop in the top. Pinch it with your pliers to secure it.

Bend It

Bend up part of the bottom into a “U” shape

Cut It

Cut the end into a a point. The steeper the angle the better.

Temper It WARNING DO NOT DO THIS WITH GALVANIZED STEEL!

Hold the hook to a flame (lighter, candle, campfire, alcohol stove etc) until it is glowing hot. Then immediately put it in water. This makes it less bendy and more brittle so you have to weigh your options. Sorry no pics yet.
