In this instructable, I'll show you how to make a wire ring with a wire wrap and a bead.

It's lovely and can make a great ring for yourself or for a friend! You can use any type of bead as long as it fits on your wire. You can use a rock that means something to you or whomever you gift it to- like a birthstone, evil eye (https://www.karmaandluck.com/blogs/news/evil-eye-m...), or gem with a specific benefit. Whatever you would like.

This instructable will cover the steps to make the ring with the blue bead but you can take the steps shared and use them to create your own variation, like the ring with a shorter wrap and different bead in the corner of the first image.

Supplies

  • 16 Gauge Wire
  • 24 Gauge Wire
  • Bead (It must fit onto your 24 gauge wire)
  • Wire cutters
  • Round nose pliers
  • Tape measure (For measuring the length of wire)
  • SandPaper (Make sure you sand the wire after you cut it, the edges can be sharp)
  • Ring Sizer or any cylindrical object the size of your finger

Base Ring

We'll use the 16 Gauge wire for the base ring. For a size 8 ring, I started with 3 inches of wire, The amount of wire you use will be based on your ring size.

You'll want to add close to an inch to whatever your size is so you'll have enough wire for the overlap, you can always make it smaller, never bigger.

If you need to find your ring size you can check out this website https://studiofran.com/ring-sizing-guide/

Once you cut your wire be sure to sand both sides so it's not sharp!

Wrap your wire around your ring sizer or cylindrical object as shown in the pictures. Because the wire is thick, the ends will be hard to bend and will stay straight, that's okay.

Use the round nose pliers to bend the straight ends.

Check the size of your ring again, I find it usually gets a little pushed apart during these steps, If it's gotten two big pull both ends in opposite directions at the same time. If it's gotten too small, pull the ends apart.

Wrapping

I used 5 inches of thin wire for my wrap, depending on how you do yours the length may vary. If you want to wrap your just like I did mine I recommend you start with 6 inches so you have wiggle room.

Place your bead in the center of the 24 Gauge wire and center it between the overlap. Wrap each side of the 24 gauge wire around the 16 gauge wire once, it's okay if it's a little messy you can use your fingers or the pliers to push the wrap together.

Once you have a tight first wrap on both sides, keep wrapping in the same way. Do each side one by one. Pull the end of the thin wire through the center of the ring and pull tight, repeat until you have a wrap the length you would like. Do the same thing for the other side.

Important Note:

Finish your wrap on the front side of your ring, once you trim it, it may feel uncomfortable if the wire is in the back. It pokes.

You don't have to do the same wrap I did. Your's can be looser, shorter, uneven, or you can just follow mine. Your choice!

(You may notice the bead I was using changed, That's just because my first one snapped in half)

Finishing!

Once your ring is wrapped use the wire cutter to trim the thin 24 gauge wire as close to the 16 gauge as possible. It will still have a little point to it so sand it down and use the pliers to press it down by gripping the ring on top of the pointy wire and twisting in the direction it points. This should wrap the point around the base ring and make it hard to notice!

Enjoy your ring!
