Watercolor Impression Background Technique

I love how this technique ends up turning out. Tho it does take some time to dry.

Supplies

  • card stock - not watercolor paper
  • watercolors
  • bits of string, tulle, lace, etc

Add Watercolors

Dunk a piece of card stock into some water to get it completely wet.

Don't use watercolor paper. It’s too absorbent.

Start adding watercolor to your wet card stock.

Fill With Colors

Use different complementary colors if wanted.

Cover the whole piece of card stock and move quickly to the next step.

Add Absorbent Materials

Place embroidery thread and other absorbent materials onto the wet card stock

Cover With Something Heavy

It’s hard to tell, but in the picture, I laid a glass casserole dish on top.

I kept the glass dish on until everything dried completely.

Remove All Materials

Once dry, remove the string and any other fiber like materials.

You should be left with an awesome resist where the thread soaked up the color!

Use It As a Background
