Follow the step-by-step instructions and materials list provided to make your own wall-mounted magnetic knife holder.
Supplies
- Piece of Wood (at least 1 inch thick)
- Saw
- Sandpaper (120 and 220 grit)
- Drill
- Set of magnets (such as neodymium magnets) of magnet strip
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Level
- Screws
Measure and mark the wood: Measure and mark the wood to the desired size of your knife holder. Keep in mind the size of your knives when deciding on the size of the holder. It's better to make it slightly larger than the knives to allow for easy insertion and removal.
Cut the wood: Using a saw, cut the wood to the size marked in step 2. Make sure to make a straight cut to avoid uneven edges.
Sand the wood: Use the 120 grit sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges or surfaces, then use the 220 grit sandpaper to make it smoother.
Mark the magnet placement: Measure and mark where the magnets will be placed on the wood. The magnets should be spaced evenly apart and be placed in a way that will securely hold the knives. It's recommended to use at least two magnets for each knife, for better holding power. Drill holes for the magnets: Using a drill, make holes for the magnets on the marks. The holes should be slightly smaller than the magnets you are using. Insert the magnets: Place the magnets in the holes, making sure they are flush with the surface of the wood. Use a strong adhesive to secure the magnets in place.
Mount the holder: Use a level to mark where the holder will be mounted on the wall and drill holes for screws. Make sure to find the studs in the wall before drilling the holes. Then, mount the holder to the wall using the screws, making sure it's level. Test the holder: Place the knives on the holder and make sure they are securely held in place. Enjoy your new knife holder: You can also stain or paint the wood to match your kitchen decor.
