Vertical Farm
A vertical farming system to plant your walls for decoration or fresh herbs. Its almost entirely made up of PVC, featuring an internal irrigation and drainage network.
To water your plants you simply fill up the uppermost pot, which will distribute the water via a hoes to all other pots. A drain allows moisture in one pot to escape in the pot below.
Supplies
- PVC pipes of different diameters can be used
- PVC tube, measuring approx. 1 / 10 of the pipes diameter
- back wall
- 3d Printed Pipe connectors (optional)
- spray paint

Design Considerations
Choose pipes and tube with matching dimension. For a farm with N pipes of diameter D, you need a PVC pipe of at least length 2 * N * D, and a tube of same length.
Drainage and Irrigation
This is how our Drainage and irrigation system is laid out.
Cutting
Cut the pipe in pieces of length 4 * D. Then half each piece with a 45° cut. A Hacksaw or circular saw is suited for this job.
Drilling
Drill holes in the pipes for the tube to cannel through and deburr the edges. We made ourselves life easier by creating a template.
Painting
Paint the pipes in your favourite color.
Preparing the Tube
Make some holes in the tube. Due to the higher pressure in the lower parts of the system, place fewer holes there to compensate.
Chain the Peaches Together
Follow your layout and chain the peaches together.
Gluing
Glue the pipes together and onto the backboard with plenty of hot glue.
Finishing
Plant your flowers or herbs, put this peace of art on the wall, water it regularly and enjoy.
