Venture 17 Sailboat Mast Step Repair

The mast step of my very used Venture 17 sailboat was in bad shape.  The boat had been sitting mostly abandoned before I bought it and started renovation work.  The mast step looked like it had been moved around and the underlying wood was torn and exposed.  I epoxied the wood area and covered the opening with a piece of composite decking.  The decking was planed down to follow the contour of the deck.  Then everything was life caulked, seated, and bolted down.  Looks much better.  Very easy fix as compared to cutting out a large opening and re-fiberglassing the whole step.
