Upcycled CD Jewelry & Accessories

IMG_1888.jpeg

I absolutely have fallen in love with the colour and look of these upcycled CDs!

I've been experimenting a lot with different variations but these are not only some of my favourites but definitely the most recycled and cheapest.

Supplies

-CD(s)

-Microwave

-Oven

Optionals I used:

-Free pair of sunglasses from an event

-Copper tape

Microwave the CDs for 5 Secs or Less

*Caution* you NEED to be in a well ventilated room and should let the room air out after baking the CDs.

I'd also recommend wearing a mask and taking breaks outside

First off, you will need to microwave the CDs for 5 seconds or less. This will give it the crackle look. Or feel free to go to the next step if this isn't your favourite.

Tips: Don't use a new microwave, or your fancy plates, and cover it with a paper towel.

Bake the CDs for About 5 Mins at 350 Degrees

Using an old cookie sheet and parchment just bake the CDs for about 5 mins.

*Don't stand near the oven. Set a timer and go to another room to avoid inhaling more fumes*

CD's turn out more blue 💙 & DVDs tend to come out more purple.💜

I started off by making the earrings and moved on to adding this as a mosaic to other 'free' objects/accessories I have. Any strong crafting glue will work on this type of plastic. Plus you can get this copper tape at most craft or hardware stores and it'll help keep the layers together.

I used a wood burning stick to make the holes for the earrings but you could also put them back in the oven for a few mins and use a needle to poke a hole.
