Switch up your ordinary lamp into a colorful and texturized work of art!

Materials List

To do this, you will need the following items:

  • an old lamp base
  • twine in a color of your choice
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun
  • painter's tape

  • The rest of the items are not shown, but you will also need a lampshade and some fabric to complete the lamp.

Prep Lamp

Start by cutting a long piece of twine and begin wrapping it around the lamp base, with a few dabs of hot glue. Keep doing this, adding glue periodically as you work your way up. It's a lot easier for you to start from the bottom and work your way to the top.

Add Embellishments

As an added bonus, you can also add some flowers and butterflies to the base, like how I did here.

Add a Shade

Now, you can add a lampshade that compliments the colors of your flowers, butterflies, or twine. Or, you can make your own!

To make your own lampshade, you can buy one from the store, like I bought mine from Joann's, and cover it with fabric. To do this, grab a piece of pencil and a pencil, and trace out the shape of the shade. You will only need one piece, since you will need to trace it out 4 times on a piece of fabric. Then, just trace the same shape on the fabric, cut them out, and just hot glue them to the sides of the shade, one piece of fabric for each side.

Light It Up!

Now, just add a lightbulb to your lamp, and you are done!
