Tongan Breakfast Sandwich
I was introduced to this sandwich many years ago from an old roommate of mine. I instantly fell in love with it the first time I took a bite. All the layers bring so much flavor and goodness. The best part of this sandwich is when you know your going to have a busy day and you don't have time for lunch this breakfast sandwich will give you the calories to keep going. It comes in at a solid 1,240 calories to push you through the day. When I think of this sandwich I definitely think comfort food.
Tools + Ingredients
Tools:
- Griddle
- Frying pan
- Small bowl for mixing
- Toaster
Ingredients:
- 2 Slices of Bread
- 1 Pkg of Ramen Noodles (Chicken)
- 2 Eggs
- 2-4 Slices of Deli Oven Roasted Turkey
- 2 Slices of Pepper Jack Cheese
- 3/4 Cup Sliced Mushrooms
- Butter
Many of these Ingredients can be changed to suit your cravings. I might try bacon instead of turkey next time.
Preparing the Ramen Noodles
The bulk of the sandwich will be the ramen noodles.
To start, run the folded edge of the dry noodles under some warm water from your faucet until you can break the two halves apart. This only takes 10 seconds or so.
In a small bowl, beat 2 eggs with the seasoning packet that comes with the ramen noodles.
With your griddle heated, place the 2 halves of the dry noodles and pour the eggs slowly over to let it flow into the noddles.
Brown each side cooking the eggs through.
Just before pulling the noodles off the griddle place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each half.
Preparing the Remaining Layers
On the stove top, melt 1-2 tablespoons of butter.
Add the sliced mushrooms and saute. Set aside when finished.
On the griddle place the slices of turkey and heat through or until nicely browned. Set aside when finished.
While the turkey is heating, toast 2 slices of bread.
Butter toast if desired. If not, you could add your favorite condiment later when assembling the sandwich.
Assemble the Sandwich
With all the layers collected, start assembling the sandwich with the 2 slices of bread.
Add the ramen noodles to each slice.
Add the turkey equally to each side.
Add the sauteed mushrooms to finish out the middle.
Fold the 2 halves together and enjoy!
I hope this sandwich becomes a guilty pleasure like it has for me. It is also fun to try new combination of flavors, meats and cheeses to find that ultimate sandwich.
Thank you,
