Tofu Steak Sandwich
In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a vegan tofu steak sandwich. They're delicious and excellent for lunch!
Supplies
Ingredients:
- 1 block of firm tofu (~300 gram)
- 1 cucumber
- 15 cherry tomatoes
- 1 avocado
- 4 pre-baked bread buns (you can, of course, use any type)
- Salt (to taste)
- Garam Massala (2 tsp)
- Vegetable oil for baking
Tools:
- Oven
- Large skillet
- Kitchen knife
- Cutting board
Cutting
- Preheat your oven according to the instructions of your pre-baked bread.
- Cut up your tofu into 5 mm (1/4 inch) slices. You will need about 6 slices, depending on the size of your bread.
- Cut up all vegetables into thin slices, so they best fit on the sandwich.
Frying and Baking
Add about 2 tbsp of vegetable oil to your skillet and add your tofu slices. Bake at medium/low temperature. Cover the topside with 1tsp of garam massala (for 6 slices) and a pinch of salt to taste. Flip the tofu after 1 minute and repeat (cover the other side in 1tsp garam massala and a pinch of salt).
Fry for roughly 20 minutes, untill both sides are mildly crispy and golden brown. Put your bread in the oven to finish simultaneously with your tofu.
Assembly
Assemble the sandwiches to your liking. I like to stack tomatoes, then cucumber, tofu, and finally avocado. Enjoy!
