The Tesseract Marvel

I decided to make a tesseract for the End Game movie release when I cosplayed as Loki.

All the projects that I found used paints, however, I didn’t want to have to buy paints for this project as I probably wouldn’t use them again so I was thinking of other ways to get the desired effect.

Supplies

  • Cube Display Case/Baseball Case
  • Blue LED Light
  • White Tissue Paper
  • Velcro Tabs
  • Mod Podge/Glue
  • Paintbrush (For Glue)
  • X-acto Knife/Scissors
  • Cutting Matt
  • Ruler
  • Fine Tip Marker
  • Plastic Sheet (Mine was A4 sized)
  • Hot Glue (Optional. I only needed this because my edges weren’t joined)
  • (Optional) I did use a matte finishing spray on the inside of the cube, however, I changed how I was going to do this project and don’t think it’s needed.

Reinforcing the Sides

(Optional)

I had to reinforce the sides of my case as for some reason they weren’t attached. Obviously, if your box is fully enclosed you can skip this step.

I used hot glue for this, placing it along all the edges to stick them together.
(I wouldn’t recommend super glue. I tried this first so you wouldn’t see the glue as much and it just didn’t adhere).

Making a Base

I ordered my square display case, however, once it was delivered I found out that it only had five sides to it, I was wanting a baseball case that would end up fully enclosed. If you can find a box like this I’d recommend it, however, I have steps that will work if you get a case like mine.

Use a thick plastic sheet (Thnk laminate paper thickness, it just needs some structure)

Traced the base of the cube onto the plastic sheet with a marker, and add some 5mm tabs around the edges.

Using a ruler and an x-acto knife cut out the image

(This image was after I added the tissue paper, but it gives you an idea on the shape I traced out)

Adding Textre (Tissue Paper)

2.jpg

  1. Take a sheet of tissue paper and crumpled it into a ball to get a textured effect before flattening it out again
  2. Measure the top of the cube and cut out six squares of white tissue paper
  3. Cover the inside the top of the cube with mod podge and take one of the tissue paper squares and adhered it into place and cover it with more mod podge.
  4. Repeat this for the other four sides and the base.
  5. Add small strips to the flaps of the base as well.
  6. Wait for it to dry

Attaching the Light

3.jpg

Cut out a square from the plastic sheet (The size of the base WITHOUT the flaps)

Using hot glue to attach the velcro tabs, one half to the light, and the other to the middle of this new square sheet.

Inserting the Light

You may need to trim the plastic sheet down slightly to fit it inside the cube.

Place it diagonally into the cube and it should flare out slightly and create a hammock for the LED, placing it in the centre of the cube.

Attach the Base

Once everything has dried you should be able to pop the base into place, with the tabs it should hold itself in place.

Turn on the LED and turn off the lights!

Now you have your very own Tesseract.
