The Square Knot is a simple binding knot used to secure a rope or line around an object. In addition to being used by sailors for furling sails, it is also one of the key knots of decorative macrame textiles. The knot lies flat when made with cloth and has been historically used for tying bandages it aslo has connections to the Scouts (Displayed on there investiture badge seen below),

However it has also been called the Reef Knot. This is Not a Reef Knot.

A Reef Knot I will post here soon, The Reef Knot is used as in its name to tie fishing nets and baskets to the reef out at sea. And in doing so is a quick release.

But please continue down for instructions on how to tie a Square Knot.
