Hey y'all, in today's instructable I'll how you how to make the perfect classic funnel cake! This is a simple, perfect, classic fair food which could not be easier to make! I've tried funnel cake before (not from a fair) but my experience wasn't all that great so I took matters into my own hands with this recipe. I am proud so say that this recipe wont let you down! So follow the step by step guide below or watch the video tutorial here:
Ingredients & Tools
INGREDIENTS
- 2 C Flour
- 1 t Baking Powder
- ½ t salt
- 1 T Sugar
- 2 eggs (lightly beaten)
- 1 ½ C Milk
- 1 T Vanilla Extract Flavorless oil Powdered sugar (to dust the tops with)
- Vegetable oil or any frying oil.
TOOLS
- Collapsable Funnel
- Cuisinart Cast Iorn Dutch Oven or any heavy bottom pot
- Spiral Whisk or standard whisk
- Pyrex bowl
- misc. kitchen utensils
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl add in your flour, baking powder and salt and mix until everything is combined.
Add Wet Ingredients to Dry
Next add in your eggs (whisk lightly), milk, and vanilla to the dry ingredients.
Combine and Cool
After adding the wet ingredients, beat until the batter is smooth and everything is combined. Cover your bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate your batter for 30 minutes.
Heat Oil and Place Batter in Funnel
While you are waiting for your batter to rest and cool, line the bottom of a cooling rack with paper towels. Add oil to a heavy bottom pan about ¼ of the ways up and heat to 375 degrees F. Once your batter has rested, pour it into a measuring cup and pour about ½ cup of your batter into a funnel and hold the bottom with your finger (because you don't want it to funnel out unless its on top of the oil).
Have Fun Funneling!
Once you are on top of the oil pan, release your figure carefully and stream the batter in the hot oil using a spiral motion to form the classic funnel cake look.
Let It Fry
Fry about 2-3 minutes and flip to the other side and fry another 1-2 minutes or until your funnel cake is nice and golden brown.
Place on Cooling Rack
Take your funnel cake out the oil and place it on the cooling rack (the napkins help absorb the oil) and allow to cool slightly.
Dust With Powdered Sugar
Taker the funnel cake and dust with powdered sugar!
Enjoy!
Enjoy this classic fun fair food in the luxury of your own home!
