The High-Tech Prepper BOSS. (Basic Outdoor Survival System).
OK, So I'm not the average prepper.. For one, I refuse to leave behind some of the stuff, that I consider, basic comforts of life. There are many excellent BoB bag Instructables so I won't go into detail about those things that are common to the majority of the survival bags, rather, I will focus on the things that I consider "essential" , and have been left out of most "comprehensive"BOB systems, and share some of the gadgets I have that you might want to include in your bag.
The one "essential" trait that a prepper should have is to be a bargain hunter, 99% of the stuff in my BOSS, were acquired in the clearance racks, on sale, or highly discounted from the major superstores.( ie. Target, Wall Mart ,K mart.. Marshalls, etc)
I really don't differentiate between Prepping and going out camping as the two of them require me to survive ant thrive out of my comfort zone, so you can also use this guide as an essential camping equipment check list.
Let's start the "show & tell"

FOOD / WATER
This is a very basic kit that is in one of the carry on / back packs. It does not include the protein bars , dehydrated food, and MRE's that every family member has and is responsible for.
SHELTER
Shelter consists of three tents for 4 persons. I tried the 1 tent for four and didn't work..Kids don't let you get a good nights sleep, and the rest that you will need to deal with whatever awaits you. they're better off with their own tents.
CLOTHING
My Clothing, Every member has their own similar supply.
HUNTING / GATHERING
For food provisioning, I have a kit that consists of:
- A .22 caliber US survival rifle that is water proof when in storage very light weight, and it all collapses into the gun butt. takes less than a minute to put together.
- Two fishing rods plus tackle boxes.
- Sling shot
- Pellet gun
- And various knifes
FIRST AID / MEDICAL
The First aid / Medical Kit consists of a household first aid kit , an automotive first aid kit, a surgical kit and various supplementary medical devices to monitor health conditions. They all collapse into four small cases.
IDENTIFICATION
Besides having several color copies of important documents (passport, drivers license, birth certificates, car and house titles, diplomas, degrees, resumes, etc..) I also keep scanned files of the documents in password protected, encrypted, flash drives. Each member of the family has one.
ENERGY / LIGHTING
The Various Lighting and energy components in my kit. mouse over the picture for an explanation /description. I have some larger solar battery chargers and a portable gas powered generator that are not shown, but you get the picture.
Communications / Networking
OK , So here's where I really "Deviate from the norm" . Besides the standard two way communications, I also include a Small wifi Router (TP-Link Portable 3G /3.7G Wireless N Router) , a Sony tablet S, Plus some laptops(tablet PC's) and a 1 Terabyte USB Hard Drive (not shown) that has all my pictures, Home Videos, and a bunch of Movies, ebooks, and music (MP3) that I have compiled throughout the years. I use the Router to stream the files / movies/ music to any wifi enabled phone or PC we take along! I also use it to monitor the IP Cameras that are part of my security system.
SECURITY / SURVALIENCE
Several of the video audio surveillance equipment that can be deployed around the campground to monitor from a central location
They all can be powered by 12v battery packs (not shown).
They all can be powered by 12v battery packs (not shown).
Personal Defense
Tools / Utility
The Tool set was purchased at Target on Clearance as most of the other stuff.
Personal Hygiene / Toiletries
Just Personal stuff I can't live without.
Entertainment / Comfort and Storage
These are optional items, as they are heavy and occupy space, But if time and space permit I'll take them with me!!
Well I hope you enjoyed my show and tell, and I hope I have helped you think about some other stuff you might want to include in your BOSS!
I haven't gone into allot of detail on all the stuff, but if you have any questions, leave your comments and I'll try to respond. I gave enough info about most of the stuff that you can "google" it and get more info, if not -just ask
