This project brings a touch of magic to the world of water features with a fountain in disguise. Inspired by everyday household items found in the kitchen, this fountain cleverly conceals its water cycle, making it appear as though the water is flowing from nowhere and disappearing into thin air. The Base
- A mold was made using an old whiskey bottle case/container.
- Cement was poured in.
- A PVC pipe of about 3" thick, locked from the bottom, oiled, was inserted. After inserting it was fixed using tape.
- After the cement was settled for about 30 mins. The PVC was extracted.
- The structure was let to dry and then finally extracted from the case.
Base Modification
- This cement base was drilled on each side.
- One side will bring water in and another side will push water out later in our project.
Wooden Channel to Lay the Water Channel
Begin by creating a wooden base or channel that will act as the foundation for the water flow. This structure will guide the water along a predetermined path, ensuring a steady flow throughout the project.
- The channel is engraved on the wooden beam. Two holes were made on two ends one for the entry and another for the exit of the pipe.
Bending the Pvc
Heat and bend the PVC pipe into the desired shape to create the structure of the fountain. This will serve as the framework through which the water will travel.
- To bend it at a good 90 degree, sand was stuffed in the PVC and then locked using tape.
- The bending area was wrapped with aluminum foil and heated using a hot air gun.
- Gradually pushed against a tin spray bottle and the bend was achieved.
Adding the Collector
Install a water collector at the bottom of the PVC structure. This collector will gather the water as it circulates through the system, ensuring it is funneled back to the pump.
- This collector is holed and the pipe from the cement base joins the collector from the side.
- The water will be collected here and will be passed to the main cemented base.
- The collector is temporarily fixed using a tape with the cement base.
Adding the Pump
Place the submersible pump inside the water chamber. The pump is responsible for driving the water through the PVC soft pipes, creating the continuous flow needed for the fountain.
- The water carrying pipe will be passed from the left hole of the cement chamber.
- Additional hole for the power supplying wire was kept beside the left hole.
Laying Water Supplying Pipe
Attach a water supply pipe to the pump. This pipe will carry the water from the collector back to the top of the fountain, completing the hidden water cycle.
- The water pipe will exit from the left hole of the cemented chamber and follow the wooden beam's channel.
- The wooden beam was secured onto the cemented chamber using a tape temporarily.
PVC Water Supply
Connect the water supply pipe to the PVC structure. Ensure the connection is secure and that the water can flow smoothly through the system without any leaks.
- After the PVC was successfully bent, it was cut and resized as per the required size. And a hole was made behind its neck.
- The water supplying soft pipe was then aligned and inserted in the neck of the bent PVC.
- The PVC was secured again using a tape with the wooden beam.
Binding the Structure
Use strong adhesive or clamps to bind the PVC structure to the wooden channel. This step ensures that the entire setup is stable and that the water flows as intended.
- Here we have used ropes and super glue to bind the project altogether.
Adding Distractions
Incorporate kitchen-inspired elements or decorative items around the fountain to distract from the hidden water cycle. These items not only enhance the visual appeal but also help maintain the illusion of the disappearing water.
- A funnel was introduced at the top of the PVC pipe.
- A GI mesh was introduced to cover the lid of the concrete base.
- A plastic ball was placed underneath the pipe, creating an illusion and a support as well.
Adding Water
Finally, pour water into the collector and turn on the pump. Watch as the water flows through the hidden channels, creating the magical effect of a disappearing fountain. Adjust the flow as needed for optimal performance.
