Thanos GOTG Mask and Helmet.

Hello, here is my life size replica of The Marvel Universe THANOS character.
wereable helmet and head mask.

I tried to capture all the details, from the smallest to the most remarkable, I hope you like it, so let's get started.

Thanos is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was created by writer-artist Jim Starlin, and made his first appearance in The Invincible Iron Man #55

He is a mutant member of the race of superhumans known as the Titanian Eternals.

Thanos is regarded as one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. He has clashed with many heroes including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men.

Some of his powers are: super strength, speed, stamina, immortality and invulnerability among other qualities.

In comics Thanos can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy, and is capable of telekinesis and telepathy.

I always liked the greatness of the version of Thanos that appears in the first installment of guardians of the galaxy, in his throne demanding obedience, so I based mostly on this version, although I wanted to make a union of the two faces closer to the version of Infinity War, here you can notice it.

I modeled a Thanos head and helmet closer to the Marvel cinematic universe movies design in every detail.

or at least approximate. :)

After the design, the model goes to the pepakura designer program where the 3d files are unfolded to pass to planes that will later be joined to give it the respective volume.

The files are in PDF and in a size of 1000mmx1000mm (1mx1m)
to print at your local large print shop. if you need letter or A1 size let me know.

I also leave you 2 animations where I can guide you in the assembly of the helmet and the head.

After printing the material in the recommended size, it is time to transfer it to thick cardboard to give it consistency, in the case of the head and in the case of the helmet to serve as rigid molds to pass to the eva foam.

now we will have one of the most tedious parts, that of cutting each piece.

We will use the help of the Xacto, any fine cutter or scissors to give an impeccable finish to our pieces, whichever is easier for you.

I recommend always keeping the pieces organized for a better workflow.

I also advise making parts separately and then joining them.

when joining the parts it is advisable to make a reinforcement with the hot glue gun.

As I said in the previous step, reinforce both internally and externally with hot glue, also if you notice I put some cardboard reinforcements to avoid separation when applying the fiberglass resin.

Check the parts where the resin can escape and if necessary help yourself with tape to reinforce these parts.

Now we will glue small squares of fiberglass mat so that they are fixed when we apply the fiberglass but be careful a simple drop of hot glue will work, then we will accommodate the head on a surface that will stabilize it upside down.

I advise bathing the outside with resin to give it a certain hardness.

And remember also to use the safety elements to avoid respiratory diseases due to the dust generated, and take care of your eyes since any splinter can damage your vision.

After that now we will use the dremel and its different attachments to refine our mask, we will cut the excesses with the disc and for the eyes we will use the diamond tip.

For the helmet we will use the pieces of the patterns, we will prepare them according to their angles and design with the dremel, and we will use the contact glue to join all the pieces, we will guide ourselves with the animation for the assembly and we will also look at the references, If you are not clear about the references, search the in the web for millions of images of Thanos.

In this step I realized that the resin did not reach to moisten the most internal parts, so we will see how to solve this later.

Arm yourself with your favorite sculpting tools and materials, and get ready to bring your Thanos mask to life.

here I use polymer clay but you can use the material that is easier for you

First of all we will use the clay to shape the mask, I recommend putting one half of the face first and then based on it to maintain a certain symmetry, we will take strips of clay and we will cover helping us with the character references. his characteristic marks could guide us.

I had some problems with the fiberglass since in some parts the resin did not enter well and left hollow parts.

If you have this problem, use automotive putty to patch those parts, also when you apply the polymer clay try to open some holes with the drill where you think it is prudent so that the clay grips better.

It will take a long time but I recommend you focus on the details, look for the necessary references, you will see that with a lot of work you will achieve incredible results

Now it's time to bake our Head mask. for that we will use an electric or traditional gas kitchen oven.
I recommend a large oven, since the head takes up a lot of space. You can also bake it on its side, always taking care of the temperature with a cooking oven thermometer.

*remember to follow the steps recommended by the manufacturer.
*the specifications of each sculpting clay may vary.

for the head use a mixture of several cool purple and blue tones, use the help of a brush and brushes to give the skin texture.

for the eyes use a metallic aquamarine blue, at the moment it did not have clear varnish but the ideal is to apply it to give more realism and brightness to the mask eyes.

For the helmet we will use two colors as a base metallic blue and metallic gold, here I used acrylic paints. if you want to add some shadows mix with black tones

check the colors and small details that need to be touched up.

If you want to add more shadows or highlights to the skin or maybe darken the golden color, or make it more aged, or who knows some marks of battle damage, this is the time, you are about to finish your mask
