Sweet Semiya Recipe

Semiya (vermicelli) holds a special place on the iftar table and eid, offering a delightful treat after a day of fasting. 

This traditional dish is a sweet and aromatic delicacy prepared with roasted vermicelli, sugar, and garnished with nuts like almonds, cashews, and raisins. 

The dish symbolizes unity and sharing, as families gather to enjoy its rich flavors together. 

Whether served hot or cold, Semiya is a cherished Ramadan tradition, bringing joy and fulfillment to the festive season's culinary experience.


Supplies

Vermicelli - 1 Cup (200gm)

Ghee - 6 tsp

Almond - 10

Cashew - 10

Raisins - 30

Dry Dates - 5

Grated dry coconut - 1 tbsp

Poppy Seeds - 1 tsp

Water - 1 liter

Soak and Cut Dry Fruits

Soak the Cashew, Almond and Dry Dates for 2 hours. It will become soft.

After 2 hours cut almond, dates and cashew vertically

Roasting Dry Fruits

Add 1 tsp of poppy seed to the pan and roast it for a minute in medium flame and take aside.

Add 2 tsp of ghee to the pan and heat it in the medium flame.

Roast Cashew pieces, Almonds pieces, Raisins for 1-2 mins together.

Roast the dates pieces till it turn golden brown or brown color.

Cooking Vermicelli

With the remaining ghee in the pan, add 1 cup of vermicelli to the pan and roast till it turn golden brown color.

Boil 1 liter of water.

Add the roasted vermicelli to the boiled water.

Cook the vermicelli 90% in boiled water.

Serving

Strain the water from the vermicelli.

Add 4 tsp of ghee and mix it.

Add 4 tsp of sugar and mix it well.

Sprinkle 1/4 tsp of sugar, coconut grater, dryfruits, poppy seeds and serve it.

That's it.
