Sudan Safehouse

The Sudan crisis involves ongoing conflicts and severe droughts, causing millions of people to flee their homes. These displaced people need safe and secure places to live. Therefore, rebuilding temporary shelters is essential for providing stability and helping communities recover and rebuild their lives.

The shelter features a simple square wooden frame with walls made from locally sourced bricks. The roof is constructed from a wooden base and a corrugated galvanised iron sheet. Inside, there's a basic layout with minimal furnishings, providing only the essentials.

2. Rolling pin
3. Knife
4. Glue gun
5. Ruler

MATERIALS :

1. 4kg Concrete
2. 1m3 DOW
3. 100 Toothpicks
4. Glue
5. 3mm Balsa wood sticks
6. 5mm Basla wood sticks
7. 4 Clay packs
8. 50cm x 50 cm Cardboard paper
9. 1 Metallic spray
10. 30cm x 30cm Linen fabric

Step 1

MOLD BASE DESIGN

·measure and design the pieces

·cut the material to the dimensions of the base

· glue the pieces together

Step 2

CONCRETE CASTING

·mix dry and wet materials

·pour the concrete into the mold

·unmold when the concrete dries out

Step 3

WOODEN FRAME

·cut the wood pieces to the required dimensions

·glue the pieces together

·place them onto the base

Step 4

INFILL WALL DESIGN

·spread out the clay evenly

·measure and engrave the lines

·cut out the door and window openings

·let it dry

Step 5

TENT

·measure the tent on a piece of fabric

·cut it out

Step 6

ROOF

·cut the cardboard piece in half (embossed side)

·paint it white first

·top it with a metallic finish

Step 7

ASSEMBLING

·glue the wooden frame onto the base

·place the clay walls between the frame

·place the roof on top

·add the tent and doors
