Stuffing Waffle Doritos Bratdogs
Part of the Thanksgiving tradition is to have and enjoy the leftovers for days to come. We get breakfasts of leftover pie or cranberry sauce and get to follow it up with epic turkey sandwiches for lunch, but in many households (mine included) the stuffing doesn't really disappear like the other goodies. Enter the Stuffing Waffle Doritos Bratdogs. They're legitimately delicious and put all that stuffing to good use. Even your Uncle Ted, who has never enjoyed stuffing, is going to be all about it. Saying it's good stuff is an understatement, punishable by lack of crunchy goodness.
Supplies
- Stuffing
- Bratwurst
- Nacho Cheese Doritos
- Condiments
- Waffle Iron
Epic Buns
Instead of hotdog buns, we're using stuffing waffles. The idea of this concoction is to utilize leftover stuffing, and it starts by putting them in the waffle iron. You really don't need to be a perfectionist about evenly dispersing the stuffing; when you squish it down it'll spread out and cover the iron. Just be sure to put a bit extra in the middle so there's
Fair warning, this may ruin normal hotdog buns for you. Not unlike Uncle Ted, I'm not that big on stuffing myself and thoroughly enjoyed using stuffing waffles as buns.
Cook Your Brats
As your stuffing waffle buns cook, you can get your bratwurst going. Using bratwurst in place of normal hotdogs is a delicious and magical experience regardless, but for this particular creation their flavor does also suit the end product much better than a hotdog would.
Crumble on Doritos
Once your stuffing waffles are done, break down some nacho cheese Doritos into smaller pieces and spread them out across the waffles. This adds a nice salty crunch with some extra cheesiness.
Condiments
Dinner is served! Now it's just a matter of adding your favorite condiments and digging in.
The Stuffing Waffle Doritos Bratdog is an original creation, so it felt right to do some science to determine the best condiments. I found the results a bit surprising, so maybe it will help you decide what to add on your own bratdogs. I tried different combinations of mustard, ketchup, and cheese. The results are as follows, but every combination was delicious so there's really no losing:
- Mustard
- Cheese + Ketchup + Mustard
- Ketchup + Mustard
- Cheese + Mustard
Time to chow down. Enjoy!
