String Calendar

Something I love making are calendars, because life is very messy and I need something to sort everything out. Even if you are an organised person, why not make a calendar? In this Instructables I will show you how to make your own calendar out of paper and string. You will not have to use any glue!

Supplies

  • A4 piece of cardboard
  • 12 sheets of A4 card stock
  • Lots of string of many colours
  • Needle
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Pencil and pen

Cutting the Paper

Get your 12 sheets of A4 card stock (don't use printer paper because it tears very easily).

Cut 18cm by 20cm rectangles.

Draw the Gird Lines

Then draw the grid lines which which will serve as guide lines for the stitching. Most months need seven columns and five rows, except May and August which have six rows in the 2020 calendar. (If you are making this for other years check with google to see which months need six rows).

For most of the months, each square will be 2.4cm by 3.4cm.

For May and August, each square will be 2.4cm by 2.9cm.

Leave a gap at the top. The number of the month will go here.

Stitch the Gridlines

Create a double knot on one end of the string and then start stitching. I decided to use different colours for different months.

Use the remaining bit of string to stitch the number of the month. Now get a pen and write down the dates.

You can be as creative as you want, and use many colours!

Stitching Everything Together

Now it's time to piece everything together. Cut two holes on your piece of cardboard and one hole in each corner of the paper. Put all of the months together in order and tie it onto the cardboard.

Done!

You can add final details and you are done! Time to write down all your plans and get your life organised.
