Stray Cat Strut Cupcakes
You Will Need...
cat cookie cutter (should be able to find at your local cake supply shop ,especially around halloween)
round cookie cutter or you could use a cup or can
gumpaste
yellow gel coloring (airbrush paint recommended)
black gel coloring (airbrush paint recommended)
toothpicks (4)
frosting
cupcakes- May I recommend one of my fall cupcake recipes pumpkin swirl cheesecake cupcakes or Sweet Potato & Brown Sugar Cupcakes with Bacon (or not)
For the fence:
brown gel color (airbrush paint recommended)
fettuccinne noodles
piping gel
Roll out the gumpaste real thin. Press the cat cutter in the gumpaste and wiggle to ensure you get a clean shape out. Run your finger along the edge of the whole thing to smooth out the edges even more. Now repeat this process using either a circle cutter or a cup/glass. Let the gumpaste dry for at least 4 hours so it can get stiff.
Now just paint the cat and the moon. Let dry.
How to Make the Fence (optional)
Paint a few fettuccine noodles brown. Use scissors to cut about 2 ½ inches long. It doesn’t have to be straight ,the idea is for it to look a little like a rundown fence. Lay out your slats. Cut your crossbar. Add piping gel all along the crossbar ,then lay it on top of the slats and don’t touch it for at least 24 hours.
Place 2 toothpicks where you want to put it on the moon and the cat. Try to remember to have it on the gumpaste enough to support the top but also enough to stick into the cupcake to support it. Melt some chocolate melts in the microwave at 50 percent power stirring often. Do your best to cover as much of the toothpick as you can .it won’t look pretty but that’s ok because the front will. Chill well. At least 20 min. Now you are ready to stick them into the cupcake. First do the moon ,then the cat. You can either just set the fence up against the cupcake or you can secure it with a little frosting or piping gel. Voilla!!! isn't it cute?
