Some stories never get old. Decorate a tin to keep a pendant necklace from the pages of your favorite book. You might want to make at least two of this project-- one to gift and one to keep for yourself to wear!

  • Favorite book that you would like to use the pages from. (Make a copy and print out a page if you don't want to cut up the book.)
  • 2 inch tin (I got these at a local Dollar Store)
  • 1.5 Inch hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Optional: sharp blade
  • Paint brush
  • Mod Podge glue/sealer

-----

  • Pendant tray base (I used a 1" round. You can use any other size too.)
  • Glass cabochon that fits inside the pendant
  • Clear glue
  • Necklace cord or leather strap with fixings attached (or add you own ends, clasp and o-ring)
  • Small pliers
  • Store bought beads
  • and/or your own paper beads

Carefully cut out some pages from your book.

Cut some strips of paper the width of the lower edge on the bottom of the closed tin. Use your paint brush to brush a layer of Mod Podge all around the bottom edge of the tin. Apply a paper strip or two (they can overlap). Rub it smooth onto the tin. Apply top coat of Mod Podge with a paint brush.

If you need more book pages for your pendant, start again by cutting out a few more book pages. Cut out the circles this time with the 1 inch circle cutter (or with scissors). Trim off some of the page if it helps you get to a better choice of text. Cut out a few more circles than you need- you can evaluate your final choice later. (Watch all the way through this video. Step 6 will go into detail about gluing the paper and glass cabochon to the pendant tray base.)

Choose a cut out circle from your selection. Pick one whose text goes with your theme! Apply a thin layer of clear glue to the back of the glass. Gently press down and smoosh the paper to the glass in order to get any bubbles out. Apply the glue to the pendant tray base. Apply the prepared glass to the pendant tray base. Gently push down on the glass to adhere it to the pendant tray base.
