Steampunk Millennium Falcon Keychain

For this Instructable I made a steampunk-style Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. I made this using random gears and scraps that otherwise would have been thrown away.

Supplies:

• Cardboard or a thin piece of wood
• Random bits and scraps such as gears, screws, beads, broken jewelry, buttons, wires, etc.
• Acrylic paints

Tools:

• Hot glue or super glue
• Exact-o knife or boxcutter

For the base I used a piece of cardboard from an old box, but you could also use a thinner scrap of wood to add stability. Cut it into the basic outline of the Falcon. Some ideas for the detail scraps are gears, beads, broken jewelry, small screws, washers, nuts, bolts, wires, pop tabs, and really anything else you have laying around.

For the base of the details, you need three special parts; the turret, the cockpit, and the lights in the back. For the turret I used a piece from a broken wristwatch. This was placed in the center of the ship. For the cockpit that sticks out from the turret I used straws cut to size. For the lights in the back I used washers. These were all glued in place.

At this point I placed other random pieces around the base items. For the best look, place the pieces all pointing out from the turret in the center. Make sure there is little or no cardboard left showing.

For the base coat paint the entire ship black. Make sure to get this coat into all the crevices. When the base coat is completely dry, drybrush a coat of brown. After the second is dry, do another drybrush coat of metallic copper.

To add a little extra pizzazz, I drilled holes through the washers in the back. I then poked some LEDs through and voilà!
