Spongebob/Patrick Jellyfishing Net

IMG_0817.JPG

I made this net because I was going trick or treating as Patrick Star, and I thought it would be really fun to make a jellyfishing net to go along with the costume.

Cutting the Handle

Measure out 20 inches of bamboo from the farthest side of the bamboo, make a mark there with a sharpie, and cut.

Make a diagram that makes the longest parts 9 3/4 inches long, and cut 4 of them. But before cutting each side, cut at an angle so that when you assemble it, it will sort of look curved.

Making It Safe for Children

Lay out all 5 of your pieces and sand down each side so there will be no excess splinters, and also peel off any little stringy bits.

Assembling the Basic Net Shape

Place down your 4 side pieces in a square so that the edges that you cut make it look like an octagon.

Securing the Shape (temporarily)

IMG_20221029_155955677.jpg

Use some not so strong hot glue to hold the shape together, or use some scotch tape.

3d Printing the Jellyfish

Download this stl file and print either 4, 8, 12, or 16 jellyfish. This file comes with 4 jellyfish, so print either 1, 2, 3, or 4 batches. (Note: the Ultimaker 2go does not print that high quality, but it can print very fast)

Securing the Shape of the (Circle)

Rip off the tape or the not stable hot glue, and use the gorilla glue gun to replace it. Make sure to hold each side in place until the glue cools.

Making the Net Pt 1

IMG_20221029_160654535.jpg

Get out your rope. Cut a piece long enough to cross the two bamboo pieces parallel to each other, but to also droop down a bit. glue each side to the pole

Making the Net Pt 2

IMG_20221029_163137017.jpg

Do that 7 more times, so that 8 cross the parallel bamboo poles, and also do that on the other two poles, then the net ropes will make a sort of messy criss cross pattern.

Adding the Handle

IMG_20221105_153537034_MP.jpg

Put some hot glue on the tip of the handle, then attach it to the center of one of the sides. After the glue is cooled, put on multiple layers of packing or duct tape in a figure 8 motion/shape until the handle is sturdy.

Jellyfish!

Take your jellyfish off of the 3d printer. Cut off the support material if used any, and sandpaper it so it is smooth. If not using pink filament, use acrylic or spray paint to paint it pink.

Finale

Cut short pieces of rope and hot glue them to the jellyfish. Hot glue the other end to random spots on the bamboo until satisfied. Use to carry your candy bag such as a pumpkin basket. Use with Spongebob or Patrick costume, or just use it without a Spongebob or Patrick costume.
