Constructing the Body
I assembled the box. I taped the top closed and then taped the bottom flaps upen to make a longer body. I cut holes for eyes and arms to make sure they were in the right spot to fit my child. Then using my hot glue gun, I covered the box with 1/2 “ thick green craft foam that I bought at a fabric store that came in 3 ft long rolls. I cut the sides kind of wavy to look like the edge of a sponge. I constructed a nose out of rolled up foam and hot glued it to face. I then spray painted the whole thing yellow. When that dried, I cut foam where the eye holes and arm holes were, folding them inside the whole and hot gluing them to the inside. I then added circles in foam painted white for around the eye sockets.
Adding Details
I added more cut up pieces of spray painted foam for texture. Eyelashes and mouth were made with black felt, with red for the tongue and white card stock for teeth. I added actual art sponges for the cheeks. Then painted the shirt and shorts with craft paint. The tie is red felt, belt is black felt and collar is white cardstock. Lastly I added white tulle to the inside of eye sockets and adhered blue irises made with felt and white cardstock for shine in the eyes
