Spanish Rice
In this instructable, I will show you how to make Spanish Rice.
Ingredients
- 6 cups of cooked white rice (3 cups uncooked)
- 1 green bell pepper
- 1/2 cup of chopped onions
- 2-3 tbsp of vegetable oil
- 9 oz of canned tomato sauce (no special seasoning)
- 1 1/2 tsp of chili powder (not hot chili powder)
- garlic salt
- pepper
Tools//Apliances
- cutting board
- kitchen knife
- measure tools
- 6 qt or larger pot
- wooden spoon or spatula
Cut the Bell Pepper.
Measure the Chopped Onions.
Use a 1/2 cup measuring cup to scoop the right amount of onions. Set them on the cutting board with the bell peppers for now.
Heat the Pot.
Place the pot on the stove, leaving the lid off, and turn the heat to high. Add 2-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
Combine the Ingredients of the Sauce.
After the oil has heated (about a minute), pour the vegetables into the pot and stir them until the onions become translucent (2-3 minutes). Stir in 9oz of tomato sauce.
Season the Sauce.
Stir in 1 1/2 tsp of chili powder. Once the sauce is combined, season with garlic salt and pepper, to taste. This usually ends up being about 5 shakes of each seasoning but your best bet is to taste as you go.
Finish It Off With Rice.
Turn the burner to low. Then, add the rice into the sauce, breaking it up as you go. Stir well and continue to break the rice up so that it can absorb the sauce.
Wait.
Turn the burner off and let the rice sit for 30 minutes to allow the rice to absorb the sauce and the flavors to develop.
