Let's make a Sound Board together! These use tin foil to conduct electricity through the board with scratch + the makey makey to create sound!

Supplies

  • foam board (1 board)
  • cardboard (1 sheet)
  • cardstock (1 sheet)
  • tinfoil (2 sheets)
  • duck tape
  • scratch for programming
  • makey makey (for circuits)
  • wires (2)
  • alligator clips (2)
  • for top drawing (optional):
  • markers

  1. Attach foil to foam board using duck tape (make sure tape is only on the edges)
  2. Poke 2 holes into foil covered foam board and feed wire through to the back (where only the tips poke through)
  3. Place cardboard frame on top of foam board and secure with duck tape (again, only edges)
  4. *Separately* Cover back of cardstock in tinfoil + secure with tape (only edges)
  5. Secure cardstock to other part by taping the edges once again

Scratch

  1. On scratch: create a new code
  2. From the event section, drag "When _____ is pressed"
  3. From the sound section, drag "Play sound ______" into the previous command
  4. (you can customize sound and key)

Makey Makey

  1. Attach alligator clips to wires poking out from base (one clip to each wire)
  2. Using Makey Makey, attach one clip to space (or other key of your choosing)
  3. Attach other clip to ground
