Small Shoe From Cardboard

pre.png

Hi!

In this project, we are going to make a small cardboard shoe.

To start, I modeled the shoe in 3D with Tinkercad, it does not look like the shoe at 100% but you will be able to see it in 360°, you will see the modeling in the 1st step.

Our project won't require any specific materials, just things we all normally have at home.

The shoe will be quite simple to make, you just need to be quite precise and know how to improvise in the event of a problem and if you want to make a shoe a little bigger or smaller, don't forget to adapt the measurements.

If you are using glue I suggest you let it dry a bit before moving on to the next step and use tape to hold the items in place while waiting for the glue to dry, this won't be necessary if you use glue guns.

In the project, on certain elements of the shoe, I first made a sketch and put the measurements on it before putting it on the cardboard, I also recommend it to you because that way, if you make a mistake, you don't risk no wasting a piece of cardboard or putting erasures on the shoe.

You will find a comparison of the size in the last step of the project.

Let's start the project, good viewing!

Supplies

List of supplies:

  • a cardboard as found on package, that is to say, a fairly solid cardboard
  • a fairly flexible cardboard
  • a scissors or cutter
  • glue
  • a scotch
  • something to write
  • a sewing thread
  • markers or paints

The Shoe in 3D

So here is our 3D shoe that I made with Tinkercad, it wasn't very easy to do and that's why it doesn't look like two drops of water like the shoe we're going to make with cardboard.

I put this 3D modeling so you can pretty much see the shoe from every angle.

Now let's move on to making our cardboard shoe!

First Shapes and Cutouts

To start, we will make the base of the shoe. Take a piece of cardboard, cardboard strong enough and draw a shoe shape on it, the measurements I have put are approximate and therefore you do not need to respect it to the nearest centimeter. We will make 3 identical ones

Do not forget to adapt your measurements if you exceed the measurements that I put a little too much, for that, it is enough to multiply the measurements of this project by the ratio of enlargement or reduction.

To find this ratio, simply take the measurement on your project and divide it by the one on the instruction. Now back to our project.

We will take the fairly soft, bendable cardboard and draw the shape as in the picture.

The base will be 9 cm and the two sides will be 2 cm. You need to make two for both sides of the laces.

You can also immediately make the holes to insert the future laces.

Paste Items

It's time to glue our first three elements. First we will take a base, take the glue and glue the two ears of the shoe on the opposite side. And for the other two bases, we will use them right after.

Make sure that at the back of the shoe the two ears of the shoe are closest together and don't worry if they don't touch because we'll fill it in right away.

To fill it, we are going to take a piece of flexible cardboard, draw a rectangle that will be about 6 cm long and whose width will depend on the size of the hole in the back of the shoe between the two ears of our shoe , and if the two ears of the shoe are touching at the back, the width of the rectangle will be about 0.7 cm.

Then glue it to the back of the shoe by folding it in half then leaving a small hole on top as in the photo.

Glue the Other Two Bases

Now we are going to take the other two bases and then we are going to glue them below the base where we have pasted the other elements.

This Step Will Depend on What You Have Done So Far

Then, we'll take a fairly solid piece of cardboard, we'll draw a semi-circle on it, it won't really be a semi-circle since it will be the shape of the tip of the front of the shoe. The base will be 3cm and the highest height will be around 1.5cm. After taking a soft cardboard, we will draw a rectangle on it that will be 5 cm long and 0.5 cm wide. Then we will glue these two elements as in the image.

We are now going to make the element of the shoe that prevents your foot from touching the laces. For this, we will draw the design as in the photo, put the measurements and then cut it out.

It's time to glue them, we're going to glue them to give an almost finished shoe as in the photo. To put them in place, do not hesitate to cut the ends that protrude if they do not fit or if they fit badly because it happened to me.

Let's Start Decorating

To start decorating our shoe, we are going to draw on folding cardboard a rectangle 25.5 cm long and 1 cm wide, we are going to glue it around the shoe, the length must be able to go around the shoe and if it exceeds, you can cut.

An Element to Reinforce the Location of the Laces

This element is intended to reinforce the location of the laces so that the shoe does not tear when putting the laces, the base will be 1 cm, the height about 5 cm and the top 0.5 cm. Then we are going to stick it on the shoe and I advise you to cover it with tape once it is in place to reinforce its solidity.

Color It Hell'be Even Better

It's time to color our work, for that you just have to take a paint or markers and color it as you want.

Put on the Laces

Finally, we will put the laces.

I used a sewing thread for the laces but you can also use fairly thin strings if they fit.

Don't forget to make the holes and then you can put the laces in place, the little bow tie will make it even better.

Let's Compare Its Size and We're Done

Finally, I put two images for you so that you can see the size of the small slipper. The shoe next to it has a European shoe size of 42 and an American shoe size of 8.5. So I let you compare the size of both shoes.

So we are coming to the end of the project, thanks for watching and see you soon!
