This project was created as a course assignment at the California State University, Long Beach; taught by Behnaz Farahi: DESN 551: Materials, Tools, and Techniques of Prototype.

Supplies

To begin, I started with generating images in Midjourney. The inspiration used for the project was seashells with rounded bubble textures. I picked one of the images to move forward with.

I then took the image into Rhino and started experimenting with textured volumes in Grasshopper. Once I got the desired length, I trimmed the corners in order to make the texture rounded.

Experimental Stage

Shape for sample texture pattern.PNG

I started experimenting with patterns in different intervals on shapes made in Rhino. The shape I tried this on was a domed surface.

Final Shape

The final step was creating the surface for a model. I choose to make an egg like shape and surround it with my main textured shape. I wanted the model to mimic a pinecone shape.

The Physical Model

The main shape here was 3d printed. This main module was printed with color. Check out the quick video of the project here. https://youtu.be/BH1xXMQebDc
