Setting Up a Chess Board
These instructions will teach you how to properly set up a chess board in order to correctly play a game of chess. Images and steps will show you where each piece is suppose to start on the board
Supplies
one chess board
one full set of chess pieces (32 total)
16 pawns (8 light, 8 dark)
4 rooks (2 light, 2 dark)
4 knights (2 light, 2 dark)
4 bishops (2 light, 2 dark)
2 kings (1 light, 1 dark)
2 queens (1 light, 1 dark)
Aquire a Chess Board and Place It on a Flat Surface
Aquire Your Chess Pieces
one full set of chess pieces (32 total)
16 pawns (8 light, 8 dark), 4 rooks (2 light, 2 dark), 4 knights (2 light, 2 dark), 4 bishops (2 light, 2 dark), 2 kings (1 light, 1 dark), 2 queens (1 light, 1 dark)
Place the Dark Rooks on the Squares at the Far Ends of the First Row
One dark rook should be placed on the square furthest to the left on the row closest to yourself.
The other dark rook should be placed on the square furthest to the right on the row closest to yourself.

Place the Dark Knights on the Inside Square Next to the Dark Rooks on the First Row.
One dark knight should be placed on the second square from left on the row closest to you.
The other dark night should be placed on the second row from the right on the row closest to you.

Place the Dark Bishops on the Inside Square Next to the Dark Knights on the First Row.
One dark bishop should be placed on the third square from the left on the row closest to you.
The other bishop should be placed on the third square from the right on the row closest to you.

Place the Dark Queen on the Fourth Square From the Left on the First Row.
The dark queen is placed on the fourth square from the left on the row closest to you.

Place the Dark King on the Fourth Square From the Right on the First Row
The dark king is placed on the fourth square from the right on the row closest to you.

Place All Eight Dark Pawns on the Second Row (each Pawn in Its Own Spot)
Each dark pawn will occupy one spot on the second row closest to you.

Rotate the Board or Go to the Other Side, So That You Are Facing the Dark Pieces and the First Row Closest to You Is Empty

Repeat Steps 3 Through 8 With the Light Pieces on the Side of the Board Now Closest to You. Note Queen and King Change, See Description Below.
Place the light queen on the square four places from the right on the row closest to you.

Place the light king on the square four places from the left on the row closest to you.

The light king should be facing the dark king, and the light queen should be facing the dark queen.
Your Are Now Set Up and Ready to Play a Game of Chess (or Learn How to Play)
Your game board show now look like the board presented in the picture.
