Sea Glass Tumbler

In Makerspace class, we made a sea glass tumbler to make sea glass to use for jewelry and decoration.

Laser-cutter, wood, plastic wheels, soup can, water, sand, broken glass, small metal rods, popsicle sticks, motor, batteries, hot glue/sticky substance, rubber bands

Make box on Makercase with the dimensions in the image. Then, download the box as an SVG.

Laser-cut box on glowforge with the same dimensions and the imported file from Makercase.

Get the box out of the laser-cutter and then construct it.

Make holes in box with dimensions a little bigger than the plastic wheels you are using

Hook up the battery to the motor and the motor to the wheels. Also make sure you put the a rubber band around the wheels.

Put 4 teaspoons of sand, 15 mL of water, and pieces of broken glass into the can.

Put any sticky substance you want on the lid and then attach it with the can so the stuff inside doesn't pour out.

Put popsicle sticks on the side of the box for support for the can. This is so the can doesn't fall off when tumbling.

Put the can onto the wheels and turn the motor on. Let can spin for days.

After letting the can spin for days, take off the substance you used to hold the lid onto the can. Then take out the seaglass.

Look at seaglass and use it for jewelry or decoration.
