It will be Very Good for all of you 'Trick or Treaters' out there especially as it's nearly that time of year when there is an escuse to be a prankster ;) We shall be exploring some basic kitchen chemistry and exploring how to combine some basic chemicals to make other useful compounds, then we will cook them up into a product specially designated for the prankster......Are You Ready To Have Some Fun.

In this instructable, You will briefly learn about Sulphur and its many applications ----Plus a little Chemistry and you will be Making Some Zombie Stink Juice & Capsules...............,

There are many Sulphur Compounds that we rely upon today, the most useful are pharmaceuticals 'Sulpha Drugs' Used to treat many different ailments. Sulphur appears as a natural element in Volcanic Springs - Crude-Oil and Fossil Fuel. It is a yellow- green amorphous substance with a distinct odour of matches in its elemental state. Historically it was used in Gunpowder - Early and Modern matches. and in the production of Sulphuric Acid and a countless number of other useful compounds.

It is one of the (3) Green-house gas pollutants cause by Industrial and Commercial Combustion of fossil fuels. From the combustion of Petrol/ Diesel Fuels by cars. Coal and Gas consumption in industry, Oil refining and the rotting of Organic matter, from Human, Plant and Animal. sources.

Keratin. Humans and Animals share some common structural attributes we both have Hair, Nails and skin and these are made of a structural protein called Keratin. Keratin monomers act like building blocks in a similar way that polymers do in plastics. The number of keratin monomers present, determines how much rigidity and toughness there is in these parts of the body. In many mammals it makes up their (hooves, hair and Horn). Amphibians, their (Nails & Skin). Reptiles the( feathers beaks and claws ) In Humans. ( Hair, Skin & Nails). Keratin is found throughout the body not just limited to what I have outlined.

When you accidentally burn any of these compounds, it's creates a very strong and sometimes putrid stench. The reason for this is because Sulphur is a cross linking element within the keratin structure. In exactly the same way rubber is toughened or (Vulcanised) when sulphur is introduced to the rubber structure. Sulphur is released into the environment when these compounds are burnt, the byproduct is Sulphur Dioxide. Or (Rotten Eggs) .A particularly stinky prank practiced throughout the ages is to pierce an egg with a pin and let it go rancid. The egg is then thrown in the vicinity of the desired victim and a foul unearthly stench is released.

Mercaptans. A Mercaptan is also known as methanethiol. is a harmless but pungent-smelling gas which has been described as having the stench of rotting cabbages or smelly socks.

It is often added to natural gas, which is colourless and odourless, to make it easier to detect.

The gas is an organic substance, made of carbon, hydrogen and sulphur, and is found naturally in living organisms, including the human body where it is a waste product of normal metabolism. It is one of the chemicals responsible for the foul smell of bad breath and flatulence.

It is found in many foods that we consume including Onions, Grapefruit, Asparagus and Radishes

The great advantage of mercaptan for industrial purposes is that it can be detected by most people in extremely small quantities, less than one part per million. This makes it an ideal additive to odourless gases, like natural gas, which is flammable and potentially lethal without this early warning system added.

Materials : Filter & Funnel, (2) used, uncoated, Processed Vegetable (Cans)&Plastic Pet Food Lid. Alcohol Stove or Camping Gas Stove Assembly, Digital Scales, Stirring Rod or Spoon a Glass Pill Bottle or Dropper Bottle, (2) 5-8mm Diameter Straws , A lighter, And A Syringe. Tongs. Sodium Hydroxide, Calcium Chloride, Flowers Of Sulphur, Ammonia & Sulphuric Acid. Optional Fast-Track Calcium Hydroxide / Ammonium Sulphate.

Safety materials: Gloves (Rubber) , Goggles, Extractor Fan ( Ventilation) and Lab Coat (Apron).

Process & the Chemical Synthesis

######Please Perform With Caution & Under Adult Supervision/ In a Well Ventilated Area #####

We are going to need (3) Chemicals - these are readily available from garden and building supply centres, or we can make our own. 1) Slacked Lime or Calcium Hydroxide. 2) Sulphur ,Pellets or Flowers. 3) Sulphate Of Ammonia. Each compound can be made, except Sulphur. For Slacked Lime, we use NaOh + Ca(Cl)2 -----> Ca(OH)2.+2NaCl Metathesis Reaction (Precipitate) For Sulphate of Ammonia, We Neutralise Sulphuric Acid with Ammonia, (NH4)2.SO4 ( Acid/ Base reaction. Or we can Skip this synthesis and buy them already made online or Home & Garden Supplies.

We need Approximately .5 mols of each Ingredient

For only a sample amount enough to fill dropper bottle /// Measure the following amounts .5 mols of sulphur [16gms], finely Powdered. .5 mols of Calcium Hydroxide [37gms]. Now add 150ml water in a used food can, then add the Suplhur & the Lime . Place can on a mini camping stove, slightly cover and heat on a low gas to gently boil contents [do not let boil over]. Stir every 5 mins for 20-25 mins. You should now have a vivid yellow, pungent smelling liquid sitting above a Chalky sediment. Leave covered & cool for a further 10mins. Now decant this liquid into another used food can. Now add .5 mols of Ammonium Sulphate [66gms] Cover with a plastic lid and leave for 30mins.

You will now end up with a Foul Gutt Wrenching Liquid, which can be stored in a glass jar which can hold this amount.

The Chemistry & Making Stink Capsules

The first step we produced a small amount of Calcium Thio Sulphate CaS2O3 and Calcium Poly Sulphide CaH2S. Sulphur-Lime, a well known agricultural Germicide./ Herbicide

Then in the Second Step we added Ammonium Sulphate (NH4)2SO4-+CaH2S--------=--------->(NH4)2S + CaSO4 we ended up with Ammonium Sulphide and Calcium Sulphate.

Stink Capsules// [1] Take an 8mm Straw 45mm in length. [2] Heat Up [Slightly melt one end] then sqeeze together. You Should have like a Toothpast Tube. [3] Using a Syringe or a much small diameter straw, pull up about 1ml. Now fill the straw- and repeat Step [2] You will end up with a capsule of Zombie Stink Juice.

Make as many as you want - Ready To Unleash A Terrible Stink [Just Drop One To The Floor, Stamp on it, & Leg it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
