Scarecrow Garden Buddies
Create your very own tiny scarecrow garden buddies for decorative fun. Add them to outdoor gardens or indoor plants
What You Will Need
1) Patron corks
2) 3/16 inch Dowel rods
3) Raffia
4) Straw hat
5) Scrap fabric
6) Small flowers
7) Google eyes
8) Scotch Brite Pads
9) Sharpie marker
10) Glue gun
11) 3/16 inch drill bit and drill
Drilling the Cork
Using a 3/16 inch drill bit, drill a hole in the bottom of the cork about 2 inches deep. This hole will later be used to hold the dowel rod
Adding the Hair
1) Place a dab of glue on the top of the cork
2) Before the glue sets (hardens) start adding strands of Raffia across the blob of glue. Keep adding glue and Raffia until the desired amount of hair is achieved
There are no rules, so make the hair any color, short or long, thick or thin
The Hat
1) Place glue around the inside of the hat as illustrated and place on cork over the hair
The Face
1) Using dabs of glue, affix google eyes and nose
The nose is a very tiny piece cut from the corner of a Scotch Brite pad
2) Draw on the mouth with a Sharpie marker
The Stick Body
1) Add a bit of glue to the drilled hole in the bottom of the cork and push in the dowel rod
The Scarf
1) Cut a 3x3 inch square from fabric and fold in half
I use pieces of fabric from my scrap material stash
2) Add a dab of glue on the front side of the cork stem
3) Place the folded fabric over the glue and hold for a few seconds
4) Turn the cork around and add a dab of glue to the back of the cork stem and wrap around the ends of the scarf and hold
Decorate the Hat
1) Add tiny craft flowers to the top of the hat or if you can find tiny craft fruit, add them too. Again, no rules so get creative
