SSD Case for Tiny Apple Pi [micro SATA]
This is a continuation of "Making Tiny Apple Pi: Mini VMac for Raspberry Pi Zero" as well as "Battery Case for Tiny Apple Pi".
Since I made a Tiny Apple Pi, I made an SSD case.
The motif is an external FDD.
Just like last time, just design the outer box and install the SSD.
This time there is no purpose.😅
If so, maybe I just wanted to have Tiny Apple Pi peripherals.
The material is also less. I immediately made it.
Supplies
Resin A little (I use a stereolithography 3D printer)
mSATA compatible SSD 1pcs (size of your choice)
USB 3.0 to mSATA 50Pin SSD Adapter Add on Cards 1pcs (Other products)
Screw M3 * 6mm 3pcs (Choose flat head screws as much as possible)
Nut 3mm 3pcs (included in the screw I purchased)
If you want to paint, please prepare putty, surfacer and paint.
* Links include Japan, so please search the internet separately.
Outer Box Design
I owned this external FDD, so I measured it from the actual product and proceeded with the design.
However, I needed to make the size fit the SSD adapter, so I arranged the front and back dimensions.
The basic scale is the same as the Tiny Apple Pi, so I think it would be a good accessory. (Self-praise)
Outer Box Printout
I use stereolithography for printouts.
The slit at the rear may also be essential to reproduce.
As I wrote in the making of Tiny Apple Pi, please note that the reproducibility differs depending on the resin manufacturer.
* This time, I took a picture properly.
Shaping & Painting
Paint like a Tiny Apple Pi.
* For me, the basic procedure was "Sanding > Filling the scratches with putty > Sanding > Surfacer > Color paint > Transparent matte paint".
Are You Ready to Assemble?
Is there a painted outer box?
Do you have an SSD of your favorite size?
Do you have an SSD adapter?
Do you have screws and nuts?
Let's assemble it.
Attach the SSD to the adapter.
At the same time, attach nuts to the outer box parts of Top. Please fix the nut with instant adhesive. There are 3 places.
Install the adapter with SSD attached to the Top part. The connector sticks out a little from the Top part, but that's the correct answer. (Because I wanted to keep the size ratio of the outer box as much as possible)
Cover the bottom parts and front parts and fix them with screws.
Assembly is complete.
Connect to Your Tiny Apple Pi. And...
As some of you may have noticed, SSDs that you just purchased will need to be partitioned and formatted.
Also, if you want to mount at all times, you need to set that as well.
You can find various methods for these by searching the internet, so please try to find them yourself.
Thanks for Reading to the End
This time, we produced something that could be an accessory as well as a practical use.
As I said at the beginning of this article, there is no purpose. Well, I just impulsively said, "I want to make it! I thought, "I've got to do something.
Actually, I would like to make a keyboard and a mouse, but with my skill level, I feel that making the shape is all I can do. (I have already made the shape of a mouse, but I can't think of what's inside.)
Hmmm, I want to make something...I'll give it some thought.
Bye.
*I have some thoughts on this and will make a USB Type-C version. 🤔❓
