Rope in Tension Without Knots
The rope need to be in a tension state. It is a common task in our household and gardening. To dry garments, to hold trees or bushes. In my case it was the giant home plant which need to have support rack. But because it is a really HUGE plant the rack need a support itself. I made it using ropes to flowerpot. The problem is how make and control appropriate rope tension. Knots are not suitable solution. It is too difficult to knit them again and again to adjust tension. So I decided to make simple device which can keep rope in tension and can be controlled without knots.
Supplies
Tools:
- scissors;
- round needle file;
- fine sandpaper
Materials:
- bushing with inner diameter up to 5 mm;
- spool for threads;
- rope (diameter up to 5 mm)
All inner edges inside bushing advisable to round with a needle file and fine sandpaper.
Spool need to have enough space to get about five turns of your rope.
Assembly
Assembly process is extremely simple. Fix two ends of your rope by knots as usual. At this stage It is not important to get strong tension. Then make a loop on the rope and slip it through the hole of the bushing. Now pull out the loop making appropriate rope tension and wrap the loop on the spool groove. The spool come close to bushing and fix the rope in a tension state. Done.
Result
The main advantage of this solution is that it can be repaired with easy if the rope will get weak. It is enough to pull out additional length of a rope through bushing and wrap obtained turns on a spool (without any operations with knots).
p.s.
I have concluded that the wooden support rack itself need to be mounted into the ground via plastic tube. Such way the rack will be isolated out off moister (especially if the bottom of the rack is above ground level inside plastic tube). The top side of the plastic tube can be strengthened by a yoke.
