Role Game: Seaking
In this instructable, I will show you how I have been developing my board game: seaking.
An RPG in which you become a diver and you have to explore the ocean looking for treasures. But as it is a multiplayer game you will have to use your memory and your five senses to achieve your goal before the other players.
Step 1: Develop the Prototype
Making a prototype of a board game or role-playing game is essential since before getting to work with more specific aspects such as the design of the cards or making the rules of the game, it is necessary to test the game to see what characteristics to omit, replace improve or add.
To make a prototype you don't need to make it pretty, but rather an idea of what it would really be like. For the different types of letters, I cut pieces of paper and painted something simple on top. For the supports, small clips on pieces of cardboard with silicone. And for the bag of treasures, I took any objects, they did not have to be the final ones.
Step 2: Test Your Prototype
At this stage you have to ask for help from family and friends.
Since in order to test your game, the more people the better should play it, since perhaps the game can be understood very well by some people, others, however, will need another explanation. Therefore, it is essential to collect as many perspectives as possible and to write down those details to improve your game, such as adding more cards of a certain skill so that the game is more balanced. Or just complicate it or add something that prevents you from winning so easily.
Step 3: Design Your Game
Once you've found your game fully balanced and improved, it's time to get down to business and design it. Make the design of the different cards and make the game attractive and according to its theme.
In my case, when dealing with a treasure hunt by the sea, my letter designs are related to the ocean and marine animals.
Step 4: Last Details
Once you have the cards, you have to deal with the other elements that a role-playing or table game can have, such as the board, the tiles, or the dice.
A good idea before perfectly creating your game and sending it to market is to use 3D printing for these types of chips. In my case, I designed the objects and small treasures in the bag in 3D so that I could later print them on my printer.
