Robotic Fish Tank

Robotic fish tank

Have you always wanted a fish tank? Did you never buy one because you didn't want to take responsibility over a living creature? Did you never buy one because you don't have enough time for this hobby? 3 times yes? Then go for a robotic fish tank!

Ok, you got to feed them with batteries. However, the newest generation of robotic fish will stop automatically after a few minutes to increase battery life. They will start to swim again when you knock on the tank.

Get a Fish Tank

First you have to get a fish tank. You will probably find a used one in your cellar or get one from friends, relatives,...
My recommendations are:
  • Don't go too small
  • You don't need a heater
  • It looks cooler when a light is integrated

There are 2 generations of robotic fish from 2 different manufacturers easily available in stores. The second generation has flashing LED lights and will stop automatically after a few minutes to increase battery life. They will start to swim again after knocking on the tank.

Hexbug:

  • Aquabot
  • Aquabot 2.0 (2nd gen)

Get a Filtration Pump

You should at least install a filtration pump to keep the water clean. I've used a cheap 2.5W Chinese submersible filtration pump by Aleas. It would probably be even cooler to use a streaming pump too. The final touch can be added by using stones, wood and other aquarium decoration.

Drop the Fish in the Tank...

...and enjoy!
