Reused Plastic Bag Bracelets

This is a fun a way to reuse plastic bags! I'm always looking for new ways to reuse plastic, so there's one less piece of plastic in a land fill. I came up with this idea just by looking at how many plastic bags we had, and I thought why not try making a project out of them.

Supplies

2 to 3 plastic bags [ Depending on how many colors you want ]

Scissors

2 large jump rings

1 clasp

Starting the Process

Pick out some fun plastic bag colors! First take both hands and grab onto one of the handals of the plastic bags, and pull apart. Doing this will widen the handals.

Cutting the Handles

Cut one end of the handle, then cut the other side of the handle. [ About 14 inch, depending on how big your wrist is ] Do that three times. And make sure they are all the same length.

Tying a Knot

Take all three plastic strips you cut and place them in your hand at the same length. Then twist the top a little. Wrap the twisted part around your finger, and try do make the loop as close as you can to the top, but still leaving enough room to get all three strands through the loop. Pull the top part through the loop, place one hand at the top, one at the bottom, and Pull!

Braiding

Place the knotted part under something extremely heavy or tape it to something flat. I placed it under a heavy night stand. Once you found something heavy, start doing a classic braid all the way down until you've reached the bottom leaving an inch and a half of the plastic for knotting. If you do not know how to do a classic braid, try looking up videos on the internet, or I'm sure there's an instructable on how to braid.

Tying Another Knot...

Tie another knot at the bottom like step #3. Your bracelet should look like the second picture.

Cutting Off the Little Bits

There usually are little bits on the bracelet here and there, just take the scissors and carefully cut them off. Then cut off both ends of the bracelet, try not to cut the knot!

Tying the Bracelet or Attaching the Clasp

There are 2 choices here: 1 is tying both ends of the bracelet together, or using the clasp and jump rings. I would say using the jump rings and the clasp is a better idea, because you can take the bracelet on and off whenever. While tying the bracelet together, more than likely you will not be able to take it on and off - it would be more like a forever bracelet. But if you don't have any jump rings and a clasp at home, tying a knot would save you the trouble of having to go buy some. Anyhow, if you're using the jump rings and the clasp, open the jump ring and try to slide it through the knotted part. Then put the clasp on and close the jump ring. Do this with the other end too, not adding a clasp.

And... It's Complete!!!
