Renovation of Kitchen Countertop - Easy 4 Steps With Cool Effect

I have very badly looking kitchen countertop. Instead of paying to someone for renovation I've made it myself. I've read a little bit about it and then in just 4 hours I was able to make the repairs. So it turns that it is easy. Everyone can make it.

Here are some steps on how to do that

What will be needed:

- sandpaper from 100 up to 320 grit

- gloves

- maybe powertool if You want to clean whole countertop instead of some points

First You need to prepare the top. Using soap and water clean the surface. Make it really good.

One thing. Don't use the alcohol based cleaning specifics because they will remove too much of previous coat.

If You have only some spots which looks ugly You don't have to remove the coat from the whole countertop. Concentrate on the bad looking point.

Use the 100 grit sandpaper to remove black markings/scratches etc. Then using 180-200 sandpaper, make the surface smoother and make the gradient of colors from the white, cleaned point to the rest of the countertop. You need to end with smooth transition of colors. Not like white, white, white and then suddenly darker place.

One important thing: Sand along not across the wood grains or You make the awful scratches which will be hard to remove.

If You have power tools and Your countertop is really destroyed, You can remove the whole, previous coat. Like in step 2, use sandpapers from 80-100 up to 320 grit and sand the surface.

When You end, remove the dust with wet cloth and then sand the surface once again but with fine sandpaper (320-400 grit)

Put the oil on the countertop. You can use the brush for that, but You can also use the cloth or just a paper (as I did). Be carefull and make sure, that You covered all of the top. All spots. If not, they will look ugly later.

After some time (depending on instruction on oil You are using), remove the excess of the coat. Make it moving along the wood grain and You will have better, smoother effect.

That's all. It was really easy, and now You have beautifull, shiny kitchen countertop. Like new one.
