At 15 years old Katy the Kawasaki is getting a little long in the tooth, the first stage in tidying her up is to recover the seat, as its just started to split.

Gather Your Tools

To do this you'll need:

Screwdriver,

Pliers,

Power stapler,

Binder clips,

Hammer,

Sharp knife.

I've found in the past that a power stapler, either electric or air driven, is essential. The hand type doesn't have the power to drive the staples into the seat base,

Stripping the Old Cover

Using the screwdriver and pliers remove the old staples from the old seat cover. This can then be peeled off..

Begin to Fit

Place the new cover over the seat, and secure around with the binder clips, to fit temporarily. This will allow you to position and tension the seat cover to give a neat appearance.

Getting the Hump!

Try as I might I could not get the step on the seat cover to match up with the one in the seat. I realised that a little padding was needed. Using a scrap piece of foam I filled the hump, chamfering the foam underneath to give a neat appearance when the cover is stretched over it.

Final Steps

When the cover is fitted and tensioned to your satisfaction staple into place. A few adjustments may need to be made as you go. Any proud staples can be tapped in with a hammer. Trim off any excess cover with a sharp knife.
