Ranger's Apprentice Ultimate Board Game
My little brother and I read the Ranger's Apprentice books, and enjoying them, I decided to create my own unique Ranger's Apprentice board game. The game is based partly on Settlers of Catan, and partly on Risk. I added extra rules and different twists, to make it more interesting. I hope you enjoy it too!
Supplies
- Maple plywood
- Computer
- Copy machine
- Wood burner
- Drill
- Drill bits
- Plastic dowels (of two different colors)
- Cardboard cereal box
- 2 colors of spray paint
- 1/4 inch plywood
- Bandsaw
Making the Board
For the game board, I used 3/4 inch maple plywood. Begin by printing off the provided map template, to your own desired size. Then cut a piece of maple plywood the same size as the map. Trace the map onto the board, and wood burn the outlines of the countries.

Adding the Pegs
Cut twenty small plastic pegs, ten of each color 1/2 inch taller than the thickness of the board. Drill one hole in each country on the board, for the pegs to fit in. These pegs will be used during the game, to determine which player owns which countries.
Using a pen or your wood burner, Add the names of each country, and the three major cities, Al Shaba, Hallasholm, and Castle Araluen.
Making the Battalions
If you would like to use the battalions from a Risk game, you may. But if you don't have these, then follow these steps to make your own. Spray Paint the two halves of a cereal box, two different colors. Cut each side into ninety 3/4 x 3/4 inch squares.Take thirty of each color, and place the number one on them with a permanent marker. Repeat the same process for the remaining sixty of each color. but on these, put the number three, on thirty more of them, and the number five on the remaining thirty.
Making the Leaders and Ships
On the bandsaw, cut out seven 1 x 1 inch squares. on four of them put the little symbol of a ship, and on the remaining three, put the names Will, Halt, and Hal.
How to Play
