Rainbow "Henna" Tattoos

instructable5.jpg

Today my long waited for henna powder came in the mail. It arrived with a spark of inspiration as I looked at the Instructables contest page, and saw "Colors of The Rainbow". So I'm now ignoring my long waited for henna powder in favor of food coloring. So it goes.

If you don't have henna, but do have food coloring, this Instructable is for you!

Supplies

Ingredients:

  • Gel food coloring

Or

  • Liquid food coloring
  • Cornstarch (or flour)
  • Water

Supplies:

  • Bowl or paint pallet (for the liquid food coloring tattoo ink)
  • Toothpicks or paintbrushes

If You're Using Gel

If you're using gel, just stick a toothpick in the food coloring and apply it directly to your skin, painting it on as if you were using a paintbrush (you can use a paintbrush too).

If You're Using Liquid

If you're using liquid food coloring, take a small spoonful of water and put it in your paint palette (in a separate compartment for each color). Next, add a few drops of color to each puddle you've made. Red and blue make purple, red and yellow make orange, yellow and blue make green.

Then, slowly add cornstarch or flour, little by little, as you stir. Keep adding it until the mixture forms a paste. Then, apply it to your skin with a toothpick by sticking the toothpick in the ink and then using it like a paintbrush.

Done!

Well, that was simple. Wait at least 3 hours, then wash off the food coloring. I only did an hour, and only the blues and reds showed up, so I had to redo it. The strongest colors are blue, purple, and red, while yellow and orange hardly show up (without a few times redoing it). There are plenty of great designs to try, just look up images online.
