The rainbow is one of the most wonderful natural phenomena that transmit magic and emotion. On this occasion, using a very striking technique with pastel oil and acrylic paint, I want to capture those feelings produced by the rainbow through a beautiful painting of flowers.

Through short videos I will explain all the steps you must follow to obtain an excellent result in a simple way, in fact the process is really short.

For this work I made some flowers, but you can draw what you like the most! For example, landscapes, a moon, antiques, super heroes, etc.

Supplies

  • A Bond sheet.
  • Pastel oil of the colors of the rainbow.
  • Black acrylic paint.
  • A toothpick.

Paint With Your Favorite Colors

Paint the entire sheet with all the colors of the rainbow that you can, make sure you are using oil pastel chalk. I used the following colors: pink, lilac, purple, blue, green, orange and yellow.

Feel free to paint, it does not matter to follow a specific pattern, just paint randomly until you feel comfortable with the result.

When you finish painting, lightly wipe your sheet to remove any oil paste residue.

Cover With Black Paint? :o

That's right! Although it sounds crazy, you should cover the entire sheet with black paint. A single coat of paint will suffice to achieve the desired effect.

Let the paint dry before moving on to the last step.

Draw Your Work of Art!

03 Radiant Oil Pastel Rainbow Flowers

Think or select the drawing you want to make, this time I will draw some flowers. With a toothpick scrape off the black paint and watch your artwork emerge in front of your eyes.

Specifically for this drawing, I first made the centers of the flowers, then I drew all the petals, and finally I filled each petal with thin lines.

I hope this Instructable guides and inspires you to carry out everything from experiments to real works of art.

Thanks for reading and watching.

Miranda.
