Quad Blasters
This project is mostly an exercise in gluing PLA parts together with CA glue. That and patience. Printing the parts is by far the most time-consuming part of this build. I would recommend printing one build plate worth of parts per day and giving yourself 8-11 days per blaster.
Remember when gluing the pieces together with CA Glue that you should only apply glue to one side of the joint. Choose the smaller side if there is an overlap.
Remember to dry fit (assemble without glue) each joint before gluing.
Supplies
Tools
- 3d Printer
- Various Clamps
Materials
- Black PLA Filament
- Silver PLA Filament
- Copper PLA Filament
- CA Glue (Super Glue)
- Fingernail Polish Remover
Print the Parts
Note: Scale the "pegs" up to 103% scale for a snug fit (as of 2022-09-26).
- Download STL files from Printables
- Print the files appropriate for your printer (if the full-size doesn't fit on your print bed, use the split files)
- Change color
- Repeat steps 2 & 3 until you have all the parts shown above (per blaster)
Glue the Handle
- Dry fit the handle halves using pegs
- Glue the pegs into one side of the handle
- Apply glue to pegs and one handle half
- Clamp handle together
- Allow time for glue to set
Glue Up the Nacelles
Note: This step is only needed for smaller 3d printers.
- Apply glue to the proud side of the joint.
- Hold the pieces together
Assemble Fancy Bits (Top)
- Collect all the fancy bits for the top section
- Using the top silver frame as a guide (don't glue to it yet) glue all the pieces together
- lightly clamp the pieces
- allow time for the glue to set
Glue Fancy Bits to Top Frame
- Apply glue to the bottom side of Fancy Bits
- Clamp fancy bits to Top Frame
- Allow time for the glue to set
Assemble Fancy Bits Bottom
- Collect the parts for the bottom
- Repeat the previous 2 steps
Assemble the Bottom Blaster
- Collect parts [Bottom Nacelle (shorter), Bottom Frame, Bottom Bracket(?), Pegs]
- Glue Pegs to the Nacelle
- Glue Frame to Nacelle
- Glue Bracket to Nacelle
- Clamp assembly together
- Allow time for the glue to set
Assemble Top Blaster
Same process as the bottom blaster, just with the top (longer) parts.
Assemble the Assemblies
- Gather parts [The Handle, Top Blaster, Bottom Blaster]
- Apply glue to either top or bottom of the handle
- Attach the appropriate top or bottom blaster
- Apply glue to the other side
- Attach the other blaster
- Clamp parts together
- Allow time for the glue to set
Glue on the Details
- Gather all remaining parts
- Glue on the large silver accents using pegs and clamps
- Allow time for the glue to set
- Glue in the accent pieces as pictures.
Strike a Pose
Patt yourself on the back, you are now the proud owner of one half of a set of quad blasters!
Repeat this guide for the second half.
